Tory vs. Patriot

Today, we talked about our story, "Katie's Trunk." (Notice I used quotation marks around the title, because it is a story within a larger book!) We started discussing whether or not we would have befriended a Tory (if we were Patriots). What do you think? Why would or wouldn't you be a friend to a supposed "enemy" of the times. Remember the time period and what we discussed regarding conflict. Let me know your thoughts! :)

Well, in my opinion, I think all of us should be in both sides because it is yet dangerous to talk to your friend when you have different beliefs. On the other hand, this is your friend, and it is your parent's choice to determine your side.

I AGREE WITH SEAN WE SHOULD BE ON BOTH SIDES AND IF YOUR PARENTS SAY DON'T TALK TO HER THEN WE SHOULD OBEY THEM TO

I think that we should stay friends because just because we believe in different things doesn't mean that we can't play with each other anymore. We can talk about things other than war to avoid having a fight. It is right that we should respect our parents and obey them, but like what Angel said, our parents aren't us. Children have their own opinions, too.

And I also understand that I would get teased for playing with a Tory. But we could stop playing in public and just send letters or something. (Until our parents find out, but still!)

I think we should stop playing with Katie because EVERYONE doesn't like Torys. Also it will be very uncomfortable to talk with her because all you're going to talk about is the Revolution. Your parents would also not like it because you have different beliefs

I think that we should STOP talking and being friends with Katie because we might get hurt and be severely punished by our parents and besides, I wouldn't want to disobey my parents.

I think we should stop talking to Katie because she might be a spy for the British. If we talk to her she might pass on information to the British.

I think that we should stop talking to Katie because we would get punished if we do talk to them. I also think that we should teach the Torys a lesson for killing our families!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think we should stay friends because I would not like to have my friends ignore me.

HI
In my opinion, different opinions don't matter and neither do parent opinions. Well, in those days, you were forced to have the same opinions as your parents. Still, I believe that everyone belongs to themselves so it really depends on whether you want to talk to your friend or not. For me, I think it depends on my friend's personality because different people have different opinions about opinions.

In other words, it's all about opinions.

I would still be Katie's friend, I would just try to open her eyes to what the king was doing to us colonists. I would try to convince her family, too.
